Small Prayers
Tropar of the Annunciation
Today is the beginning of our salvation: The Son of God becomes the son of the Virgin, and Gabriel announces the grace. For this, together with him let us cry unto the Mother of God: Hail, thou full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Condac of the Annunciation
We thy servants, O Protectress, bring thanks to thee for victories, because thou didst save us from peril, O Mother of God. As one who has unvanished power, free us from all danger, that we may cry to thee: Hail, O Bride forever Virgin.
Tropar of the Holy Fathers and Great Teachers Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom
Assembling together, let us who revere their words honor in song the three great exponents of the thrice radiant Divinity, they who with the rays of their divine teaching illumine the whole world, flowing streams of the honey of understanding, who in pouring out the knowledge of God nourish every creature, Basil the Great and Gregory the Theologian together with the renowned John who speaks with mouth of gold; for they pray continually to the Trinity for us.
Tropar of the Presentation of our Lord Jesus Christ
Hail, thou full of grace, Virgin Mother of God; for out of thee arose the Sun of righteousness, Christ our God, enlightening those in darkness. Rejoice thou also, O Just One, who didst take in thine arms the Redeemer of our souls who brought us resurrection.
Condac of the Presentation of Our Lord Jesus Christ
Thou who didst sanctify the womb of the Virgin by thy birth, and didst bless the arms of Simeon, as was fitting, wert presented, and now hast redeemed us, Christ our God. Preserve, therefore, the faithful in battles, and strengthen the rulers, whom thou hast loved, thou lover of mankind.
Magnificat
My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; because He has regarded the lowliness of His handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Tropar of the Epiphany of Our Savior Jesus Christ
When thou wert baptized in the Jordan, O Lord, the worship of the Trinity manifested itself; for the voice of the Father acknowledged thee, calling thee Beloved Son, and the Spirit in the form of a dove attested to the truth of the Word. Thou who didst reveal thyself, Christ, O God, and didst enlighten the world, glory to thee.
Condac of the Epiphany of our Savior Jesus Christ
Thou didst reveal thyself to the world today, and thy light, Lord, was signed upon us, who in acknowledgment praise thee. Thou didst come and show thyself, the unapproachable light.
Speak and act for edification
Do you see the components of the old man? Falsehood, revenge, theft ...It is possible, very possible, to put off the reproach, not only by ceasing from the sin, but by working some good thing as well ...Speak any that which edifies your neighbor, not a word more. For to this end God gave you a mouth and a tongue, so you can give thanks to Him, so you can build up your neighbor. So that if you destroy that building, it would be better to be silent ...(The Holy Spirit) it is who marks us as a royal flock; He Who separates us from all former things ...’For he who rejects,’ he says, ‘rejects not man, but God’ ...The work worthy of the Son of God ...to make them brothers and heirs ...If he is not brother, how is it you say, ‘Our Father’?
St. John Chrysostom
